The Pittsburgh Pirates released pitcher James McDonald on Saturday.

McDonald, 28, had a great first half to the 2012 season but has struggled since. He has been out since June 21 with shoulder discomfort.

In six games this season McDonald was 2-2 with a 5.76 ERA and a 1.65 WHIP.

With a career 4.20 ERA and 1.40 WHIP there figures to be at-least one team that will give McDonald another shot at a roster spot. He should be ready to go for spring training next season.
