The Tampa Bay Rays have appeared in the post season three times with Dan Johnson on the roster. They have never made the post season without him.

On Thursday the New York Yankees released Johnson from a minor league contract at the request of the 34-year-old after it was decided that he would not make the September roster.

Johnson hit .254/.379/.447 with 21 home runs and 69 RBI for the Yankees Triple-A affiliate prior to his release.

The news that Johnson had been released pleased Tampa Bay fans who immediately began pressuring the Rays front office to sign Johnson.

Expect Johnson to sign somewhere soon and considering the recent signing of Delmon Young the Rays are as good a fit as anyone.
