Erik Bedard has been bumped from the Houston Astros starting rotation.

Bedard, 34, has made 25 appearances with the Astros this season – including 23 starts.

In his last two outings Bedard had failed to pitch out of the fifth inning. While Bedard’s ERA and WHIP (4.48 ERA, 1.49 WHIP) are nearly the same as they were two months ago the Astros could not help but notice that Bedard has lost his last six decisions to fall to 3-9 on the season.

There had been some chatter that a contending team could have added Bedard at the trade deadline, though the left hander remained in Houston.

Bedard should be a free agent at seasons end so there seems to be little reason for the Astros to give him another shot at their rotation.
