The Cleveland Indians released pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka on Tuesday.

Matsuzaka, 32, asked for and was given his release after spending all season with Triple-A Columbus. During his stay there he held a 3.92 ERA and a 95/35 K/BB ratio over 103 1/3 innings of work.

It is unclear what the right-hander who spent six seasons with the Boston Red Sox plans to do next.

The Indians brought Matsuaka to spring training to compete for the fifth starters spot in their rotation. That spot ultimately went to Scott Kazmir.
