Derek Jeter has played in just five games this year, and none since Aug. 2, and the captain of Yankees is unlikely to return to the club anytime soon.
Jeter, 39, is headed to Florida for rehab.
“He’ll continue to increase his work here. When we go on the road, I think he’ll probably go down to Tampa and resume baseball activities,” Joe Girardi said via NY Daily News. “I think at some point this week you’ll start seeing him do my favorite, tee and toss.”
For now the Yankees will continue to send Eduardo Nunez out to play short.
