Mark Appel will make one more start for Class A Quad Cities before the Astros make a decision about a promotion.
“We’re very encouraged with his last start,” Luhnow said of Appel, via the Houston Chronicle.
Appel went five innings on Tuesday night to earn his first win. In that contest Appel allowed two un-earned runs on two hits and walked one. He also recorded two strikeouts.
The Astros plan to have Appel make four or five more starts this season before shutting him down.
ASTRO MOVES
On Thursday the Astros promoted Kevin Champan from Triple-A. He will occupy a spot in the bullpen. His promotion came at the expense of Travis Blackley. Blackley was designated for assignment after appearing in 42 games and compiling a 4.89 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP.
