Brandon Beachy starting tonight as McCann takes day off

Brandon Beachy will make his first major league start in 13 months when he pitches on Monday against Colorado.

Beachy, 26, last pitched on June 16, 2012. The Braves right hander has been working his way back from Tommy John surgery.

Expectations should be tempered as pitchers returning from Tommy John surgery typically have struggled in their initial returns to the mound.

Prior to getting hurt last season Beachy had a 2.00 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP.

Behind the plate for Beachy’s start will be Evan Gattis. Brian McCann will be given the day off as Joey Terdoslavich will be in left field.
