Report: Alfonso Soriano headed to Yankees

All signs point to a deal sending outfielder Alfonso Soriano to the New York Yankees being completed on Friday. Soriano, 37, is due roughly $24 million for the rest of this season and next.

The Cubs will pick up $17.7 million of the $24.5 million left on the outfielders contract. That leaves the Yankees on the hook for a total of $6.8 million.

In exchange for Soriano’s return to New York the Yankees are expected to send a  pitching prospect Corey Black to the Cubs.

While the Cubs have readily made Soriano available via trade no other teams have been linked to him. He spent the first half of his career with the Yankees before making stops in Texas and Washington and then signing with Chicago.
