The trade of Alfonso Soriano to the New York Yankees is simply waiting on the approval of Bud Selig.

Soriano, 37, is set to be traded by the Chicago Cubs for pitcher Corey Black. According to Buster Onley the Cubs will pick up $17.7 million of the $24.5 million left on the outfielders contract. That leaves the Yankees on the hook for a total of $6.8 million.

While the deal has been slow to form there was never much doubt that the Cubs were ready to part ways with Soriano. The team has tried for the last two years to trade away high priced players as part of a rebuilding effort.

In 93 games this year Soriano is hitting .254/.287/.467 with 17 home runs and 51 RBI.
