Atlanta Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy is close to returning to a rehab assignment. On Saturday the 26-year-old threw his first bullpen session since suffering elbow inflammation from his minor league outing on June 13.

“I couldn’t extend my arm, but that’s gone,” Beachy said, via Atlanta Journal Constitution. “That feels good. I threw normally without that restriction. Felt good.”

Beachy figures to need a few more bullpen sessions before he will return to his minor league rehab assignment.

“If I bounce back good, then they’ll decide what to do. If I don’t, then we’ll go from there. It’s not like before, unfortunately, where it’s scripted. Now it’s all on feel.” said Beachy.

Before undergoing Tommy John surgery last season Beachy made 13 starts for the Braves posting a 2.00 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP.
