Cole Hamels racked up his major league leading 11th loss of 2013 on Friday night.

The Phillies jumped out to an early 3-0 lead but Hamels allowed the Mets to chip away at it and by the end of the sixth inning had given up the lead. Overall Hamels allowed four runs on seven hits, while striking out five and walking three.

Hamels has recorded seven losses in his last ten starts. While it is easy to point to Hamel’s 4.50 ERA and 1.29 WHIP as reasons for the losses the offense has not exactly backed him up either. The Phillies have failed to score more then two runs in eight of his losses.

With Friday’s loss Hamels becomes the first Phillies pitcher with 11 or more losses before the end of June since 1937. Hamels next outing will be Thursday in Los Angeles against the Dodgers.

Hamels next loss will set a career high for the left hander. He previously had eleven losses in 2009 and 2010.
