Tony Bosch to speak with MLB, 20 players face suspensions

tonybosch

Tony Bosch is willing to speak to Major League Baseball which could lead to the suspension of 20 players connected to his Miami-area clinic.

The Biogenesis of America clinic was founded by Bosch who reached an agreement this week to cooperate with baseball’s ongoing investigation according to ESPN’s Outside the Lines.

One source who is familiar with the case said that the commissioner’s office will seek 100-game suspension for Alex Rodriguez, Ryan Braun and others. Under MLB’s current rules 100-game suspensions are reserved for second time offenders. The commissioner’s office believes that the connection to Bosch would constitute one offense while denying a connection to MLB officials would be another.

Below is a chart from ESPN which lists players who could face punishment from previously released information related to the case.

Player Team
Ryan Braun Brewers
Everth Cabrera Padres
Melky Cabrera Blue Jays
Francisco Cervelli Yankees
Bartolo Colon Athletics
Nelson Cruz Rangers
Fautino de los Santos Free agent
Gio Gonzalez* Nationals
Yasmani Grandal Padres
Fernando Martinez Astros
Jesus Montero Mariners
Jordan Norberto Free agent
Jhonny Peralta Tigers
Cesar Puello** Mets
Alex Rodriguez Yankees
* Sources told ESPN that Gonzalez only received legal substances   ** minor leaguer, not a member of the MLB Players’ Association

Bosch is expected to begin meeting with officials — and naming names — within a week. Suspensions could come soon after.

If MLB does suspend the players suspected of performance-enhancing it would be the largest drug scandal in American sports history.
