Orioles call up donut loving prospect Kevin Gausman

Donut or Doughnut? Ah, a great argument but for Kevin Gausman its donut. Gausman will be called up by the Baltimore Orioles to start Thursday against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The decision by the Orioles comes  one week after vice president Dan Duquette told MLB.com that the 22-year-old was “doing fine at Double-A” but not close to a promotion.

Things change when you lose seven of nine and are desperate to get back into a divisional race.

Gausman has a 3.11 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 49/5 K/BB ratio in 46 1/3 innings this year at Double-A Bowie. He was ranked 26th on Baseball America‘s listing of the Top 100 prospects this past offseason.

The fourth overall pick in the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft, Gausman earned a $4.32 million bonus and may be up for good if he pitches well.

Which brings us back to donuts.

Gausman starts every game by eating one powdered mini-donut before his first pitch. Then, he’ll eat another three donuts for each inning he pitches.
