Ricky Romero is getting closer, to a demotion back to High-A ball. Romero failed to win the fifth spot in the Blue Jays rotation this spring just two years after being a 15-game winner.

Romero lasted only 3 2/3 innings in a start for Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday. In the outing he walked six and allowed four hits before being removed from the game. Last week Romero allowed six runs on 10 hits and five walks in 3 2/3 innings in a start.

The Blue Jays called Romero up to the major league level in early May but he lasted just two starts with the club before being optioned to Triple-A. In total he threw 4 1/3 innings allowing six runs, seven hits and five walks during his brief stay.

Romero is currently earning $7.5 million this season with the Blue Jays already on the hook until 2015 with similar salaries. The team holds a buyout for 2016 worth$600,000.
