Fransisco Liriano is scheduled to make his season debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates on May 11. Pirates manager Clint Hurdle delivered the news to reporters on Wednesday.
Liriano signed a one year deal with the Pirates in the offseason but has been working his way back from a fractured right arm. The pitcher reportedly injured himself while trying to scare his kids on Christmas morning.
In four rehab outings the left hander has a 3.24 ERA over 16 2/3 innings of work. His 27/3 K/BB ratio makes for an intriguing line to watch once he does arrive in the majors.
The Pirates are expected to welcome back fellow pitcher Charlie Morton on May 14.
