The Tampa Bay Rays will be without the bat of Luke Scott to start the season. Scott, 34, was expected to serve as the DH for the Rays this season.

Scott was placed on the disabled list Saturday. He will be able to return on April 8 but that is expected to miss more time.

Rays manager Joe Maddon said that Scott will miss the first 2-3 weeks of the season according to Tampa Tribune writer Roger Mooney.

The Rays will move Kelly Johnson to DH, Sam Fuld to the outfield and place Ben Zobrist at second base to start the season against right handed pitchers.

Last season Scott played in 96 games for the Rays compiling a .229/.285/.439 line with 14 home runs and 55 RBI.
