The Chicago Cubs will be without Gold Glove winner Darwin Barney when Opening Day rolls around. Brent Lillibridge will start at second base in his place.
Barney suffered a deep cut while trying to reach a foul ball.
Gordon Wittenmeyer of the Chicago Sun Times reports that Barney needed five stitches and that team doctors will wait to decide if a trip to the disabled list is needed.
Barney compiled a .254/.299/.354 line last season for the Cubs.
