Mets: Pedro Feliciano will begin season in minors

The New York Mets informed reliever Pedro Feliciano on Tuesday that he would not be on the teams Opening Day roster. Feliciano, 36, could have opted out of his contract but choose to stay.

Feliciano will report to High-A St. Lucie. The Mets will continue to use him in a relief role rebuilding arm strength.

Once Feliciano’s arm strength returns the Mets should have little problem bringing him up to the majors for a spot in the bullpen.

The left handed pitcher last pitched in the majors in 2010.

In spring action Felicano made eight appearances for the Mets allowing one run in 4 1/3 innings of work. He allowed four hits and struck out three during that time.
