The Miami Marlins cut ties with Chone Figgins on Wednesday. Figgins, 35, had signed with the Marlins last month in hopes of resuming his major league career.
In November the Seattle Mariners released Figgins.
Figgins was a speedy super utility player in his prime but after getting a large payday from Seattle his career tailed off. In Seattle Figgins compiled a dismal .227/.302/.283 line while appearing in 308 games. He is still owed $8 million from the Mariners for the 2013 season.
In recent years Figgins had primarily played left field, second base and third base. That the Miami Marlins saw nothing in him speaks volumes about his future.
