Stephen Strasburg made his spring debut on Saturday with mixed results. The 24-year–old right hander was on a 45 pitch count.

Strasburg gave up a homer in the first inning to Ruben Tejada. In all he needed 31 pitches to get out of the first but a strong second inning left him with 42 pitches thrown total.

The Nationals held Strasburg to 159 1/3 innings pitched last season despite the team leading the NL East. They were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Thus far no plans have been announced to limit Strasburg’s innings.
