Joey Votto will play for Canada in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. The news comes after weeks of will-he-or-won’t-he. Ultimately Votto has choose to play for Canada.
While Votto says his knee is not quite normal yet, doctors have him clearance to play on it.
Votto was limited to 111 games last season but was productive while on the field. The Reds first-basemen batted .337/.474/.567 but saw his home run total drop to 14 and his RBI’s drop to 56. Both were the lowest of his career. The 2010 NL MVP will look to see more of the field in 2013.
