Its Official: Red Sox acquire Joel Hanrahan from Pirates

The Boston Red Sox have shored up their bullpen. On Wednesday, the Red Sox formerly announced the acquisition of reliever Joel Hanrahan from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Due a raise in arbitration, the Pirates had been listening to offers for Hanrahan who saved 76 games over the last two seasons. He will become a free agent next offseason.

The Red Sox also acquired infielder Brock Holt in the deal. Jerry Sands, pitchers Stolmy Pimentelm and Mark Melancon and infielder Ivan DeJesus will go to the Pirates.
