Pirates would like Jason Grilli to return, interest as closer elsewhere

The Pittsburgh Pirates are pushing to break .500 in 2013. With a reported signing of Russell Martin as the teams backstop the Pirates are working to re-sign Jason Grilli. Grilli was a key cog in the Pirates bullpen last season setting up for closer Joel Hanrahan.

Should the Pirates be successful in re-signing Grilli, he would figure to be first inline between Hanrahan for saves. Grilli posted a 2.91 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP last season while striking out an eye popping 90 batters in 58 2/3 innings.

Which teams are considering Grilli for their closers role is unknown right now. If Grilli could land a job as a teams closer it figures to be a decent pay bump over what he would make as a top level setup man.

The 36 year old Grilli has 5 saves in 10 big league seasons.
