David Freese unhurt in auto accident

Cardinals third basemen Davied Freese was unhurt after crashing his SUV into a tree on Thursday afternoon. Freese, 29, was attempting to avoid a deer in the road.

Freese crashed his 2011 Range Rover into a tree at 2:30 p.m.

Freese did not hit the deer, police offer Randy Vaughn said. Freese was already out of his SUV when police arrived for what was originally called in as “automobile accident with injury.”

After talking to the police offers Freese refused medical treatment. His SUV was later towed.

Investigators say alcohol was not a factor in the crash and “no other investigations are under way.”

No other charges will come from the single-car accident said Vaughn. Freese notified Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak of the incident Thursday evening.

Freese hit .293 for the Cardinals this past season and set career highs with 20 home runs, 79 RBIs, 70 runs scored, and a .467 slugging percentage.
