Saltalamacchia may be headed to DL, Teagarden to start

Texas Rangers v San Francisco GiantsThe catching situation in Texas may have gotten a little clearer as Jarrod Saltalamacchia may be headed to the disabled list.

Satalamacchia had been expected to split time with Taylor Teagarden behind the plate as the Rangers attempt to figure out which player is “the catcher of the future.”

Matt Treanor, acquired in a trade with Milwaukee on March 19, would be recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City and serve as the backup to Teagarden if Saltalamacchia is indeed out.

Depending on what you believe Saltamacchia is either asking a doctor about the pain on his left side or he’s headed to the DL. Either way things don’t look great for him staying on the field for the time being.

Saltalamacchia had surgery for thoracic outlet syndrone last year.

Saltalamacchia drove in the winning run on opening day with a single in the ninth. He struck out in a pinch hit at-bat yesterday.
