The trade will save the team $4 million against the salary cap. Had he been released there was a decent chance he could have ended up in Cleveland with former Texans offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\">\n<p>Oakland Raiders now are expected to trade a 2014 late-round pick to Houston Texans in exchange for QB Matt Schaub, per league source.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AdamSchefter\/statuses\/446989398341480449\">March 21, 2014<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Instead Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie made sure he got his man by giving up a late pick.<\/p>\n<p>The move gives the Oakland Raiders a veteran starter and will allow them to have additional options with the No. 5 overall pick. There are three premium quarterbacks in the draft in Blake Bortles, Teddy Bridgewater and Johnny Manziel but there is no guarantee that the player (or any for that matter) would still be on the board for the Raiders.
