Mark Sanchez is not publicly voicing concern about whether or not he will start in Week 1 for the New York Jets.

“When it’s a straight-up competition for the job, let’s roll,” said Sanchez in an interview with ESPNNewYork.com. “It really doesn’t bother me at all. It really doesn’t affect my confidence or anything like that. We’re competing for something. All right, I’m going to win. That’s just how I am.”

Thus far the Jets have been cautions to acknowledge whether Sanchez or second round pick Geno Smith have a leg up in the competition.

Sanchez played poorly last season and was benched towards the end of the season.

“I’m confident I can go out and make the plays for this team to win. You can’t guarantee wins and you can’t promise anything like that, but I know we’ll be the best-prepared team and the hardest-working team. We’ll have the potential to have a good season.”

In four years with Sanchez as the teams starting quarterback the Jets are 33-29. Over the last two seasons the Jets are a combined 14-18 in 32 games regardless of who has started.
