Adrian Peterson turned himself into authorities at the Montgomery County jail at 1:06 am CT and was released shortly after posting $15,000 bond.

The Vikings running back was indicted on Friday by a grand jury on charges of reckless or negligent injury to a child. An arrest warrant for Peterson had been issued.

Peterson then flew back to Minnesota. The running back will not play in Sunday’s game against the Patriots as the team deactivated him.

According to the attorney for Peterson, Rusty Hardin, the incident “involves using a switch to spank his son.” Peterson is alleged to have used a tree branch to strike his 4-year-old son who had been visiting him in Houston.

“This indictment follows Adrian’s full cooperation with authorities who have been looking into this matter. Adrian is a loving father who used his judgment as a parent to discipline his son,” Hardin said in his statement. “He used the same kind of discipline with his child that he experienced as a child growing up in east Texas. Adrian has never hidden from what happened.”

Ironically Peterson is featured on the tickets for Sunday’s Vikings game as well as his alma mater – Oklahoma’s game on Saturday.

Last October Peterson had a 2-year-old son die in Sioux Falls, South Dakota after being allegedly assaulted by a man who was dating the boy’s mother.
