I\u2019m talking about Geno. He progressed beautifully. \u2026 I\u2019m talking the last quarter of the season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Jets gave Vick a one-year deal to begin the season as Smith&#8217;s backup. Smith was the lowest rated passer in the NFL a season ago after being selected by the Jets in the second round.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s got a really important role here,\u201d Mornhinweg said of Vick as the backup. \u201cHe\u2019s 33 years old and he\u2019s still got it. I look at him as a young 33. He\u2019s still got it. He\u2019s going to compete hard. He\u2019s going to push. He\u2019s going to make Geno and the rest of the quarterbacks the very best they can be. When he\u2019s called upon to play, I\u2019ve got great confidence in Mike.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of how the Jets try and paint this picture, Smith is at the top of the depth chart simply because he was with the team a year ago.
