{"id":987,"date":"2013-09-17T18:25:38","date_gmt":"2013-09-17T22:25:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tireball.com\/ncaafb\/?p=987"},"modified":"2013-09-17T18:25:38","modified_gmt":"2013-09-17T22:25:38","slug":"fifth-vanderbilt-player-booted-from-team","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tireball.com\/ncaafb\/2013\/09\/17\/fifth-vanderbilt-player-booted-from-team\/","title":{"rendered":"Fifth Vanderbilt player booted from team"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/tireball.com\/ncaafb\/files\/2013\/09\/20130917-182440.jpg\" alt=\"20130917-182440.jpg\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" \/><br \/>\nA fifth member of the Vanderbilt football team has dismissed following the rape of a female student. <\/p>\n<p>The Commodores announced Tuesday that wide receiver Chris Boyd is no longer part of the team, saying in a statement that Boyd&#8217;s &#8220;admitted actions are clearly inconsistent with the high standards of behavior expected of our student-athletes.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Boyd was indicted in August on a felony accessory charge, then reached a deal with prosecutors Sept. 13 in which he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in exchange for testifying against the four former Vanderbilt players charged with rape.<\/p>\n<p>Previously Vanderbilt had suspended Boyd from the football team. He was their leading receiver a year ago. <\/p>\n<p>Boyd&#8217;s misdemeanor conviction saw him sentenced to just under a year of probation but no jail time.
