Even as the Cornhuskers hold a 9-3 record on the season and are coming off an overtime win against Iowa, the school opted to go in a new direction.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Earlier this morning, I informed coach Bo Pelini of our decision to move forward in a new direction,&#8221; athletic director Shawn Eichorst said in a <a href=\"http:\/\/espn.go.com\/college-football\/story\/_\/id\/11958376\/nebraska-cornhuskers-fire-bo-pelini\" target=\"_blank\">statement<\/a>. &#8220;Coach Pelini served our University admirably for seven years and led our football program&#8217;s transition to the Big Ten Conference. We wish Coach Pelini and his wonderful family all the best and thank him for his dedicated service to the University.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Pelini coached at Nebraska for seven years posting a 67-27 record. Only Alabama and Oregon can match Nebraska&#8217;s nine wins a year since 2008. Pelini is still owed $7.65 million after his contract was extended though February 2019. All of Nebraska&#8217;s assistants are under contract through January 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Nebraska quaraterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. was not pleased when he head of the school&#8217;s decision to fire Pelini posting to twitter.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\">\n<p>Biggest mistake you ever made&#8230;.
