Stewart was transported to an area hospital after the accident, and immediately underwent surgery.<\/p>\n<p>According to Stewart-Haas Racing, a replacement driver for Sunday\u2019s Cheez-It 355 at Watkins Glen International, where Stewart is a five-time winner has not yet been determined.<\/p>\n<p>Stewart being out will severely impact his chances of making the Chase. He\u2019s 11th in the Sprint Cup standings with five races to go until the Chase for the championship field is set.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7hh-YosJ8-M\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The Des Moines Register reported that Stewart was leading the Front Row Challenge winged sprint car event with five laps remaining when another car spun and collected the top three drivers.<\/p>\n<p>Race winner Brian Brown told the Des Moines Register he saw the accident in front of him, turned left, hit an infield tire and kept going.<\/p>\n<div>\u201cIt looked like he got into a lapped car,\u201d Brown told The Register. \u201cWhen I got close, he was flipping cage down. I didn\u2019t really have time to watch and see what was going on.<\/div>\n<p>\u201cFirst and foremost, we\u2019re concerned about Tony and making sure he\u2019s all right. He\u2019s a huge asset to our sport, especially sprint car racing and an icon in the whole motorsports field. Anytime you see him wreck like that and then leave in an ambulance, it\u2019s never good. Hopefully he\u2019s OK. We weren\u2019t going to win that race. We were probably going to run third or fourth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is Stewart&#8217;s third crash in a month racing sprint cars. On July 16 he was involved in a\u00a0 <a title=\"(Video) Tony Stewart involved in massive Sprint Car wreck\" href=\"http:\/\/tireball.com\/nascar\/2013\/07\/17\/video-tony-stewart-involved-in-massive-sprint-car-wreck\/\">15-car pileup at Canandaigua (N.Y.) Motorsports Park.<\/a> Last Monday night at Ohsweken Speedway in Ontario, Canada, Stewart was racing for the l<a title=\"Tony Stewart flips sprint car five times in Canada\" href=\"http:\/\/tireball.com\/nascar\/2013\/07\/30\/tony-stewart-flips-sprint-car-five-time-in-canada\/\">ead when his vehicle flipped five times. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Stewart schedules roughly 70 sprint car events per year in addition to his NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule. He claims that sprint cars are safe, even after the wreck last Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou mortals have got to learn, you guys need to watch more sprint car videos and stuff,\u201d he said Friday at Pocono. \u201cIt was not a big deal. It\u2019s starting to get annoying this week about that. That was just an average sprint car wreck.
