Michael Schumacher is retiring from Formula One racing and says this time, “it might be forever”<\/p>\n
Schumacher is a seven time F1 championship winner.<\/p>\n
He announced Thursday that at the end of this season he will retire, ending one of the most legendary careers the sport has ever seen.<\/p>\n
“Basically, I’ve decided to retire at the end of the year,” Schumacher said at the Japanese Grand Prix. “Although I was able and capable of competing with the best drivers that are around, at some point it’s time to say goodbye and this time it might be forever.”<\/p>\n
Schumacher has 91 grand prix wins, which is the record. He started racing in 1991and won two titles with Benetton. He then won five titles with Ferrari.<\/p>\n
The first time he retired was in 2006, but then decided to come back in 2010 to drive for Mercedes. Since his initial comeback he has only won one podium.<\/p>\n
“It’s without doubt that we did not achieve our goals to develop a world championship fighting car,” Schumacher said. “But it is also very clear I can be happy with my overall achievements.”<\/p>\n
