One of those injured fans sued NASCAR in July.<\/p>\n<p>Zimmerman&#8217;s widow claims that NASCAR received a severe thunderstorm warning from the National Weather Service at 4:12 pm but did not warn fans until 4:21 pm using only social media.<\/p>\n<p>NASCAR would stop the Pocono 400 at 4:54 pm and at 4:59, they used social media again to warn fans to seek shelter. Brian Zimmerman was hit by lightning at 5 p.m. and died.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If defendants had stopped the race when they first received the severe weather warnings, plaintiff&#8217;s decedent and others who were injured would have had sufficient time to seek shelter before being injured,&#8221; the complaint states via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.courthousenews.com\/2014\/08\/05\/70100.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Court House News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Marion Zimmerman seeks damages for negligence and wrongful death.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The family of a man killed by lightning shortly after a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Pocono Raceway on Aug. 5, 2012 is suing both the track and NASCAR.
