Kevin Harvick won the second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race of 2014 when he took the checkered flag at Phoenix International Raceway on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The No. 29 Jimmy John’s Chevrolet SS of Harvick beat out both Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Brad Keselowski at the 1-mile track located in Avondale, AZ. The win all but assures Harvick a spot in the Chase along with Daytona 500 winner Earnhardt Jr.<\/p>\n

Sunday’s race consisted of 312 laps to make up the 500 K distance. Brad Keselowski led the field of 43 cars to the green flag but it was teammate Joey Logano who passed him on lap 2 to lead the early portion of the race before a competition caution on lap 35.<\/p>\n

It was not long before Kevin Harvick became the car to beat. Harvick took the lead and did not surrender it. A bunch of caution laps took questions about fuel out of the window on the last run. The win was the 24th of Harvick’s career and moves his five career wins at Phoenix into first all-time.<\/p>\n

Morgan Shepherd, 72, broke his own record for oldest driver to compete in the series.<\/p>\n
