{"id":8947,"date":"2014-08-27T11:41:26","date_gmt":"2014-08-27T15:41:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tireball.com\/mlb\/?p=8947"},"modified":"2014-08-27T11:41:26","modified_gmt":"2014-08-27T15:41:26","slug":"gavin-floyd-expected-to-be-ready-for-spring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tireball.com\/mlb\/2014\/08\/27\/gavin-floyd-expected-to-be-ready-for-spring\/","title":{"rendered":"Gavin Floyd expected to be ready for spring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/tireball.com\/mlb\/files\/2014\/04\/gavinfloyd.jpg\" alt=\"gavinfloyd\" width=\"400\" height=\"347\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7085\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tireball.com\/mlb\/files\/2014\/04\/gavinfloyd.jpg 400w, https:\/\/tireball.com\/mlb\/files\/2014\/04\/gavinfloyd-300x260.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><br \/>\nGavin Floyd will not throw until October but is fully expected to be ready for the start of spring training.<\/p>\n<p>The free agent to-be made nine starts for Atlanta this season going 2-2 with a 2.65 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP before fracturing his elbow in a start on June 19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe will increase his exercise program but won\u2019t throw for six weeks,\u201d Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said via the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ajc.com\/news\/sports\/baseball\/floyd-wont-throw-before-october-but-should-be-read\/ng9Mb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Atlanta Journal Constitution<\/a>. \u201cBut (Braves head trainer Jeff Porter) seems to think it\u2019s normal and doesn\u2019t see any reason he can\u2019t be ready to pitch in spring training, because it\u2019s nothing to do with Tommy John, it\u2019s just the bone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Braves are unsure if they will offer a contract to Floyd but likewise have shared similar thoughts on Kris Medlen, Brandon Beachy and reliever Jonny Venters who are all recovering from Tommy John surgery.<\/p>\n<p>Expected to be the core of their team the Braves lost two starting pitchers (Beachy, Medlen) prior to the season beginning and later lost Floyd. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Gavin Floyd will not throw until October but is fully expected to be ready for the start of spring training.
