I grabbed Manny and said, \u2018What the [expletive] are you doing?\u2019 I was hoping he wasn\u2019t going to hit me.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Ramirez was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers later that season but there were plenty of events which paint the former outfielder in a similar light.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Two years earlier, during a five-game August sweep at the hands of the Yankees that effectively ended their season, Ramirez pulled himself from the finale in the fourth inning.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cI\u2019ll never forget that,\u2019\u2019 Francona said. \u201cHe came off the field, walked down the dugout steps, yelled over, and said, \u2018Hamstring!\u2019 and I said, \u2018Manny, which one?, and he pointed with both hands to both hamstrings. He was like, \u2018You pick. [Expletive], I\u2019m coming out. It was funny later, but it wasn\u2019t funny at the time. I had had it with Manny at that point.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In the book Francona mentions how he nearly quit because team owner John Henry wanted him to a public apology to Ramirez for criticizing his play.
