On Thurdsay the left-hander for the White Sox was placed on the injured list due to inflammation in his pitching elbow.

Rodon had problems in his last two outings saying he had a hard time staying lose. He allowed nine runs in three innings against the Tigers in Detroit and then on Wednesday was removed in the fourth inning of a double-header against the Orioles after allowing three runs in the inning.

“It’s just been tight, really, the whole season,” Rodon said Thursday. “But nothing like yesterday. Yesterday kind of got me a little bit. It didn’t really loosen up like it normally does.”

“Upon examination, [Rodon] revealed some tenderness over the forearm,” White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said. “We ordered some studies on them that revealed some edema in the flexor mass, which is essentially is some blood in the muscle. That’s obviously not a good thing, and trying to figure out the cause of that is what ultimately will dictate the course of action.”

Hahn said it would be a while before Rodon returns and the team has not ruled out Tommy John surgery.

Just last year Michael Kopeck, one of the teams top prospects, suffered the same fate.

Lucas Giolito was activated off the injured list to take Rodon’s roster spot. He had been dealing with a hamstring injury. Dylan Covey will move into the rotation but it is unlikely that top prospect Dylan Cease would be called upon just yet.

Rodon dealt with a sprained wrist in 2016 and in 2017 he missed three months due to bursitis in his left bicep and later shoulder inflammation that led to surgery.

Carlos Rodon is again dealing with an injury.
