\nFreddy Garcia will retire from baseball after playing in the Caribbean Series championship game this Sunday.<\/p>\n

The 39-year-old Garcia has not pitched in the majors since 2013 when he was with the Braves. A 15-year veteran of the majors, Garcia was the runner up for the 1999 Rookie of the Year award and went on to win 156 big league games and a World Series ring with the 2005 White Sox.<\/p>\n

In total Garcia had a good career being selected to two All-Star teams while posting a 4.15 ERA in 2,264 big league innings.<\/p>\n

“Venezuelan fans are expecting something good from Freddy and so is everybody,” said Venezuela manager Eddie Perez, the bullpen coach for the Atlanta Braves. “Knowing that it’s his last game is going to make it very special. We all hope he pitches a really good game so he can retire in a good way and bring the title for Venezuela. Everybody who is rooting for Venezuela expects him to do well.”<\/p>\n

Garcia was signed in 1993 by the Astros and was part of a massive trade with the Mariners which included Randy Johnson. <\/p>\n

In 2015 Garcia pitched 7 1\/3 innings for the Dodgers Triple-A affiliate but was released by the end of April.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
