Yankees extend Chapman to avoid opt-out

The Yankees have agreed with closer Aroldis Chapman on a new deal to keep him from exercising his opt-out clause.

Chapman, 31, will have another year at $18 million added onto the two years and $30 million owed to him.

This season Chapman held a 2.21 ERA through 57 innings finishing with a 85/25 K/BB ratio.
