Jason Grilli re-signs with Pirates on two-year deal

One of the goals of the Pittsburgh Pirates this winter was to re-sign relief pitcher Jason Grilli. On Wednesday the Pirates signed the 36-year-old to a two year deal worth $6.75 million.

Over the last two seasons Grilli has a 2.76 ERA and has recorded 127 strikeouts in 91 innings.

Early reports had teams offering Grilli a chance to close for them even though he has recorded just five saves in ten big league seasons. Should the Pirates continue their efforts to trade Joel Hanrahan they figure to give Grilli the first chance to close.
