Josef Newgarden has been snakebit on the ovals this season in the NTT IndyCar Series.

Newgarden had to start from the rear in the Indianapolis 500 at the end of May before retiring due to a mechanical failure. On Saturday, under the nights at World Wide Technology Raceway, Newgarden was leading the Bommarito 500 when Louis Foster hit the wall and came down the track.

Newgarden made a move to go low on the frontstretch but was collected in the crash as Foster slid down the track. The No. 2 Chevrolet was sent into the air with the rear wing landing on the pitroad wall.

The AMR safety team would flip Newgarden’s car over as the driver exited.
