Stop me if this sounds familiar: Austin Hill just conquered Daytona. Again.
Driving the No. 21 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, Hill put on a clinic during Saturday evening’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Series opener. He didn’t just win; he dominated, leading 78 of the 120 laps and sweeping both stages. Under the updated championship format, Hill walked away with a massive 75-point haul, marking his fourth season-opening victory at the “World Center of Racing” in the last five years.
Late-Race Chaos
The final stage was defined by survival. Two major wrecks significantly thinned the field:
-
Lap 93: Contact between Jeb Burton and Ryan Sieg triggered a multi-car pileup that knocked out Sam Mayer, Brandon Jones, and Jeremy Clements. Though Sieg fell a lap down, late-race cautions allowed him to fight back for a podium finish.
-
Lap 101: Disaster struck again in Turn 3 when Corey Day and William Sawalich tangled, sweeping up Harrison Burton, Jeb Burton, Carson Hocevar, Lavar Scott, and Taylor Gray.
Next Stop: EchoPark Speedway
The series moves to the newly renamed EchoPark Speedway (formerly Atlanta Motor Speedway) next Saturday. Catch the high-speed action at 5 p.m. ET on The CW, or tune in via PRN Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
