Bubba Wallace won the first of two duel races on Thursday night at Daytona International Speedway.
The first caution of the weekend came out when Zane Smith cut a tire and went into the wall on lap three leaving just minor damage to the No. 38 entry. While running third the No. 66 of Chandler Smith crashed on lap 14 ending his hopes for making the Daytona 500. Also crashing out at this point was Helio Castroneves who will now make the race via a provisional. Several others were also involved.
After the third caution Daytona 500 pole sitter Chase Briscoe pulled himself off the track to prevent any damage happening to his car ahead of Sunday.
In the end Wallace would claim the win in the first duel of the evening giving him the third starting spot on the grid for the Daytona 500. Justin Allgaier would race his way into the race while Martin Truex Jr. would earn entry into the race by time. Chandler Smith and JJ Yeley will not be in The Great American Race.
