Josef Newgarden began the Honda Indy 200 on the pole and was largely unthreatened in winning Sunday’s IndyCar race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Complex.
In the closing laps Newgarden held a seven second lead over Marcus Ericsson but that lead was reduced to just 0.87 second at the checkered flag.
Early incidents took out Will Power, Ed Jones, Felix Rosenqvist, and Ryan Hunter-Reay from contending for the win. A fueling issue on the car of Colton Herta would drop him from second entering the pits to back in the pack upon exit.
The win was the first of the season for Team Penske.
