With spring training just around the corner, the Colorado Rockies and Texas Rangers are busy fortifying the fringes of their rosters. Both clubs announced a flurry of minor league signings today, focusing on veteran depth and organizational versatility.

Rockies Add Triple Threat of Depth

The Colorado Rockies were the most active, bringing in three players to compete for spots or provide a safety net at Triple-A Albuquerque.

  • OF Conner Capel: A 28-year-old journeyman with 59 MLB games under his belt, Capel joins a crowded outfield mix. While he provides veteran insurance, he faces an uphill battle to crack a roster that already features Brenton Doyle and Jordan Beck.

  • RHP Valente Bellozo: Formerly of the Marlins, the 26-year-old Bellozo brings “swingman” flexibility to the staff. However, analysts are skeptical of his fit in Denver; his “soft-tossing” style often struggles in the thin air of Coors Field. He carries a career 4.20 ERA into camp.

  • C Kyle McCann: After a stint in the Mexican League, McCann returns to affiliated ball to compete for the backup catcher role. He’ll be duking it out with Braxton Fulford and Brett Sullivan for the right to sit behind Hunter Goodman.

Rangers Fortify Infield with Nick Pratto

The Texas Rangers made a move of their own, signing INF Nick Pratto to a minor league deal. Pratto, a former top prospect for the Royals, is looking for a career reset after a tough 2025 at the Triple-A level where he hit just .196.

For Texas, this is a low-risk “lottery ticket” move. If Pratto can rediscover the power that made him a first-round pick, he could provide valuable corner infield depth later in the season.
