Denny Hamlin won at Michigan International Speedway two weeks ago before missing NASCAR’s first Cup race in Mexico for the birth of his son.
Hamlin, back on the track, got around the track known as the Tricky Triangle in 52.144 seconds besting Chris Buescher. Carson Hocevar, John Hunter Nemechek and Cole Custer rounded out the top five.
The pole is the fifth for Hamlin at Pocono in his career. He becomes the oldest polesitter in a Cup Series race since Matt Kenseth started on the pole at Richmond in 2017.
