Kyle Kirkwood won his first race on an oval Sunday night claiming victory in the Bommarito Automotive Group 500. The win is the third of the season for Kirkwood who now has his first career win on an oval. Kirkwood along with Alex Palou are the only drivers to have earned a victory this season.
Kirkwood was joined on the podium by Pato O’Ward and Christian Rasmussen. Scott Dixon and Santio Ferrucci rounded out the top-fiive while points leader Palou finished eighth.
It was a difficult night for Team Pesnke as polesitter Will Power lost a tire which ended his night. Later Josef Newgarden was caught in a scary crash while leading the race. Finally, Scott McLaughlin had a mechanical failure as all three finished 24th or worse.
