A new chapter in AJ Waller’s racing career is about to begin as he gears up to make his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut with Reaume Brothers Racing. The Istachatta, Florida native will take the wheel of the No. 22 Ford F-150 at Martinsville Speedway later this month, marking a major milestone in his inspiring journey.
A Lifelong Passion for Racing
Waller’s love for motorsports started early. At just four years old, he was introduced to go-kart racing, setting the foundation for what would become an extraordinary racing career. By the time he was 14, he had already moved up to stock cars, proving his talent on the track. In 2019, competing in both the Pure Stock and Street Stock divisions, he secured 8th and 3rd place finishes in the championship standings, earning the coveted Rookie of the Year title.
Overcoming the Ultimate Challenge
However, just as his career was gaining momentum, Waller’s world was turned upside down. In April 2020, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, forcing him to step away from racing and focus on the biggest battle of his life.
Enduring months of intensive chemotherapy and radiation treatments, Waller faced his toughest opponent yet. But through it all, he never lost sight of his dream to get back behind the wheel. After nearly two years of perseverance, he achieved victory beyond the racetrack—beating cancer. In January 2022, Waller rang the victory bell, officially declared cancer-free, and wasted no time returning to racing.
Back on Track and Ready for NASCAR
His return was nothing short of impressive. Waller transitioned to Late Model competition across the Southeast, continuing to showcase his talent. His determination paid off when he earned another Rookie of the Year title at Citrus County Speedway, proving he was ready for the next level. Now, he’s set to take on Martinsville Speedway, one of NASCAR’s most iconic tracks, as he makes his national series debut.
“I’ve fought for this moment both on and off the track, and I couldn’t be more grateful for this opportunity with Reaume Brothers Racing,” said Waller. “Martinsville is a track full of history, and I’m ready to make the most of this incredible opportunity.”
Reaume Brothers Racing Welcomes Waller
Reaume Brothers Racing team owner Josh Reaume expressed his excitement about bringing Waller into the team and believes his journey is nothing short of inspiring.
“We’re excited to welcome AJ to our team. His resilience, determination, and passion for racing are truly inspiring. To see him overcome so much and now have the opportunity to make his NASCAR Truck Series debut is nothing short of incredible,” said Reaume. “AJ embodies the heart of a racer, and we’re excited to see what he can do behind the wheel. This is just the beginning of an amazing journey.”
