Cole Custer won both the Food City 300 and the NASCAR Xfinity Series championship on Friday night at Bristol Motor Speeday.
Chandler Smith began the night on the pole. The race had an early caution after Custer blew a tire and hit the wall. Custer would not be the only regular season championship hopeful to have issues as Justin Allgaier also wrecked his No. 7 machine and finished multiple laps off the pace. Allgaier’s hefty lead entering Bristol evaporated thanks to Custer’s ability to score stage points and the race win.
Appearing in the race, Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished seventh.
